PROJECT SUMMARY
This project will construct a hard-surface access roadway to the Pointe-a-la-Hache ferry facility on the west bank of the Mississippi River in Plaquemines Parish, LA. The project shall include a new southbound left turn lane on Highway 23, with an expanded median crossing and a northbound deceleration turn lane and acceleration lane. Additionally, all area subsurface drainage will be improved to accommodate the new roadway and ramp on the protected side (west bank) of the Mississippi River levee. A parking area will be included to accommodate commuters and pedestrians who may elect to not transport their vehicle and ride the ferry via walking. (The ferry provides transportation for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicycles.) This project is needed to replace the existing ferry access road and facility that has been damaged over the years by various storms, high river currents, and corrosion. Without the working ferry residents have limited mobility and connectivity throughout the Parish.
